About Helaina Sharpley
In 2003, whilst studying Design Crafts at Hereford College of Arts, my tutor threatened to move me onto the Illustration course, if I didn’t stop drawing and start playing with materials… he then handed me some wire. This was the beginning of my wire working career!
I hand manipulate, shape and twist different gauges of iron wire into delicate and intricate three-dimensional pieces, which cross the boundaries between drawing and sculpture. Inspired by days gone by themes in my work include architecture, rural landscapes, old time pieces and tea.
My work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs nationally and internationally, and I welcome commissions.
