Hilary Holmes Glass

Hilary Holmes Glass

Hilary came in to stained glass through night school while living in the Forest of Dean. She learnt how to make copper foil and the leaded panels, but soon wanted to expand her knowledge and learn how to paint on the glass too, so took herself to Hereford School of Arts and was taught by Franz Wesselman, a talented glass artist, painter and print maker.

She was lucky enough to work for Jim Budd Stained Glass on the Herefordshire/Welsh border specialising in the conservation and restoration of stained glass.

After she moved back to Harrogate, North Yorkshire, she worked in offices for 15 years. During this time she was encouraged by an artist friend to apply for North Yorkshire Open Studios, which was successful, and led on to more applications for local Art Fairs. It all seemed to point in the same direction, so finally in early 2019, Hilary took the leap and set up by herself. She now shares a small workshop in Starbeck, Harrogate with a fellow glass artist, Caryl Hallet.

Hilary's glass work has a contemporary feel and is inspired by the natural environment and flora and fauna. Celestial bodies are a big theme as well as Green Men.
