Mascot Media

Marion Scott Marshall has been a journalist and editor for more than 30 years, working for publications ranging from Company magazine to The Independent newspaper and the Financial Times.

She spent 11 years as editor of the weekly Gazette of the John Lewis Partnership, and since 2002 has been a freelance writer and editor for clients including Boat International Media, Warners Group Publications, Elsevier, United World Colleges, Business Monitor International (BMI), John Lewis/Waitrose, The Wildlife Art Gallery, Snakeshead Press, SPG Media and Campbell’s Foods.

With her husband, Alan, she launched and edited the monthly ceramics magazine Pottery & Porcelain Collector, which was later merged with Collect It!

Marion has been Editor of Connections, the John Lewis Partnership's monthly magazine for its 15,000 retired Partners, since its launch in 2006. She also provides layout, editing and proof-reading services for all Mascot Media book titles – as well as fine-tuning her husband's writing and design efforts.

Alan Marshall has extensive experience as a journalist, author, book designer, photographer and (in a previous life) investment analyst. He has written on topics as diverse as guitar collecting, ceramics, ornithology, motor sports, aviation, photography, art, shipping, energy, engineering and travel.

Having edited various industry and trade magazines, Alan was first Energy Correspondent, then Business Editor, for the daily newspaper Lloyd’s List, before working in the City of London for various banks as an investment analyst.

Since 2002 he has been a freelance writer, editor, photographer and designer for clients including BMI, John Lewis/Waitrose, Shire Books, Osprey Publishing, Warners Group Publications, the Wildlife Art Gallery (Lavenham), Archant, Ambrian Capital, Courtier Securities and IntraLinks.

In September 2015, he was the recipient of the John Jarrold Trust 'New Writing Award', which forms part of the 2015 Norfolk Arts Awards. This was in recognition of 'The Artful Hare' and other books created in 2015. MASCOT MEDIA has two of its books short-listed for the 2019 East Anglian Book Awards. From 90 submissions, our titles 'Wings Over Water' and 'From Bears to Bishops' were selected for the shortlists, the former appearing in the General Non-fiction category and the latter competing in the History & Tradition category. Winners will be announced in November.

Alan is responsible for the written content and design of most Mascot Media book titles, as well as for the photographing and/or scanning of prints and paintings. He also produces, under the watchful eye of Marion, press releases, promotional features and brochures/catalogues.
