‘I created these pieces inspired by the environment the Bronte’s immersed themselves in. The Bronte Parsonage collage was my favourite thing to capture because it was such a challenging perspective and a subject matter I haven’t really played with before. Collage is all about layering and combining shape and texture to me and it was fun to build up a scene, take my time rather than being more reactive in my making approach.
When Claire first asked me about creating a series of pieces about the Bronte’s I wanted to visualise it in a more ambiguous and subtle way. I chose to look at certain motifs that sit within the writing of the Bronte’s. Through nature imagery like birds, and flowers I wanted elements of the work to have a different universal appeal that the writing of the Bronte’s has today. It is more about the viewers own interpretation, I have chosen to convey this through layers of text, painted papers building up a visual representation.’
